YCD Colorado

YCD Colorado supports high school teens and educators exploring identity, educating their peers and themselves, and making Colorado schools inclusive for all.

Started in 1994 as the Cherry Creek Diversity Conference with just 18 schools attending, today YCD Colorado reaches over 1,100 teens and educators in 185+ schools and youth organizations annually across the state through our program.

YCD Colorado now offers a mixture of virtual and in-person events, workshops, trainings, discussion groups, and resources to empower Colorado teens and educators to advance inclusion and justice in their local school and community.

Apply for the YCD Colorado Student Board

YCD’s activities in Colorado, including the Colorado Youth Diversity Conference, are planned entirely by the YCD Colorado Student Board, a team of some 20-30 students from a wide variety of high schools and identities. While the program’s goals do not change year to year, every other detail is planned by this group of dedicated volunteers.

The Board is open to any Colorado-based student who will be in high school during the 2021-22 school year. Weekly meetings take place Mondays from 6:00 – 7:30 pm and are held at Cherry Creek High School (get directions here). Meetings start in September 2021 and run through February 2022.

Interested in taking a leadership role?

  • RSVP for an upcoming virtual info session, where you can meet the student co-chairs for YCD Colorado and ask any questions you have! There are two info sessions coming up on Sunday, August 22 @ 4pm MT and Wednesday, August 25 @ 7pm MT.

Upcoming Events

How to Start (or Strengthen) a Youth-Led Anti-Oppression Club

Date and time to be announced • Virtual

To help groups across the state kick off the school year the right way, the co-chairs for YCD Colorado will host a training on how to start a youth-led anti-oppression club or group. This training will also be useful to existing groups or clubs looking to strengthen their practices or re-energize their work.

Student Facilitator Training

Saturday, January 8, 2022 • Denver, CO

Student facilitators play a leadership role at YCD events throughout the school year, most notably at the Colorado Youth Diversity Conference.  Facilitators learn key skills including bonding, how to start a discussion, how to manage conflict, and much more — skills that will help them lead conversations on social change back in their clubs, schools, and communities.

After attending a mandatory training session, facilitators are paired and assigned discussion groups with approximately 25 students from around the state on the Conference day.  Discussions can include any number of topics, including an exploration of stereotypes, bias, social problems, and sharing solutions and ideas to make schools across Colorado safe for all identities.
